ALERT!! We need your help to protect our forests from the extremely destructive insect known as the Emerald Ash Borer. This insect was introduced from Asia and has been located in SW Pennsylvania. One of the ways this nasty insect spreads is through firewood movement. In order to prevent the spread of the emerald ash borer the Allegheny National Forest has established a quarantine for the transportation of all wood products, including a total ban on firewood originating from outside of Warren, Forest, Elk, and McKean Counties in Pennsylvania. Firewood may be purchased from local vendors. If you are found to have firewood in your possession that is believed to have not originated from any of the above-mentioned locations, Forestry Officials will seize your firewood and you may have to pay a fine as well. |
