Supervisors Have a Visitor

Jones Township Supervisors Jim Elinski (standing), Laurie Storrar (right) and Deb Shaffer duck when a bat flew into the room during the December 10, 2007 township meeting.

At approximately 8:06 p.m., a small brown bat flew into the meeting room through a crack in the township office's kitchen sink drain. It darted wildly across the room, repeatedly diving low and causing everyone to jump up from the table, duck, move away, or try to shoo it out the windows. Occasionally the bat would land on a light, wall, or beam, and hang there for a while, but never took the opportunity to fly out of the three open windows. Eventually, supervisors finished their meeting standing up, trying to ignore the bat. They left the room and locked the bat inside with the windows open, hoping it would leave. It did.

Russ Braun, Sewage Enforcement Officer, left and Lyle Stainbrook, with the
Dept. of Environmental Protection, right examine a soil probe at the old
Huber Farm located at the end of Clarion Road in Wilcox.  This area is one
of several locations that had been evaluated to site community sewage
disposal systems using new alternative sewage disposal technologies.

UPDATE:  Unfortunately recent cuts in the state budget have eliminated this project from future consideration.
